A complaint from the constable to director general of police Ashok Prasad led to a preliminary inquiry against SSP Mansoor Ahmad Untoo and inspector Mehboob-ul-Haq.

“Prima facie, the officials have been found guilty. Now a departmental inquiry will be conducted,” said Jammu zone inspector general of police (armed) Prithvi Raj Manhas, who conducted the preliminary inquiry with Kashmir zone IGP (armed) T Punchok.

Prasad said, “We can take action against the SSP on our own as action against all officers above the rank of additional SP is to be taken by the home department (headed by chief minister Omar Abdullah).”

Untoo, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is commandant of the Indian Reserve Police 12th Battalion.

Additional director general police SM Sahai had ordered the inspector’s suspension and recommended action against Untoo on Wednesday.

The police are looking into the call records of the inspector and SSP.
