The number of applicants at one of Delhi University’s most popular colleges — St Stephen’s — has shot up compared to last year.

The college received a total of 25,636 applications this year. Last year, the number was a little less than 25,000.

The largest number of applications — 6,469 — was received for Bachelors in Economics.

This was followed by 5,956 students applying for English and 4,023 for Mathematics.

The college is expected to come out with its cut-off list on June 21.

“We will put the cut-off online. The whole process to be followed will also be available online,” said St Stephen’s College media coordinator, Karen Gabriel.

The admission to the college does not depend only on the cut-off list. Applicants who meet the cut-off will be required to appear for an interview.

The interview board quizzes a student about the subject she wants to opt for.

This year, the college has asked students to write an essay about themselves.

The college has introduced this new feature in their application form from this year to know the candidates better, especially for the interview round.

The college offers accommodation in its hostel to those parents and aspirants who make it through to the interview round.

Last year, the applications were for 10 courses. This year, the number of courses has come down to eight as the university has discontinued BA (programme) and BSc Physical Sciences (programme). The number of seats, however, remains the same.

The application process at the college is separate from that at the university.

All aspirants are supposed to apply online and there are no physical forms.

Even those who want to apply for the sports category and for hostel accommodation have to apply online.
