After days of sitting idle, the Standing Committee on Wednesday finally passed 18 proposals worth Rs 21 crores after getting a green signal from the Election Commission.

This took place in just one hour as corporators cutting across party lines went on rampage passing the pending proposals.

Some of the proposals included appointing zoo consultant for preparing master plan worth Rs 4 crores, 11 water projects proposal worth Rs 4 crores, proposals regarding clearing of garbage worth Rs 7 crores and appointing Tata Consultancy Services for the IT roadmap for Rs 4.31 crores.

Talking to HT, Ravindra Vaikar, Standing Committee Chairman said the projects are necessary for the city. "I was sure some of the projects like water supply and lifting of garbage which are of utmost importance would be passed without any opposition. The members were satisfied with the proposals," said Vaikar.

BMC Opposition Leader Rajhans Singh said his party did not oppose as the projects were important for the city. "The ruling party would have made an issue if we had opposed. Hence we supported for the benefit of the city," said Singh.
