According to the official sources, "Necessary measures are being taken for the implementation of the plan to set up the State's first Forest Research Institute.

And if things go smoothly and the plan gets implemented then the local people will be highly benefited. Moreover, forest cover will increase and the environment get better". Besides, the Centre For Social Forestry and Eco-Rehabilitation at Allahabad will be able to widen it's scope and reach among the masses, added an official wishing anonymity.

The proposal has been sent to the director general of ICFRE and director of FRI for the approval of either of the sites--one at Rahimapur (12 km from city) on Jaunpur road and the other near IIIT-A, Jhalwa. If the proposal is okayed then the Centre will be able to purchase land, where it will be able to set up its own building, as at present the Centre has been set up in a rented premises. And once the Centre gets it's own campus there will be infrastructure development.

This will certainly pave the way for setting up of Forest Research Institute, added sources.

The sources said that the Centre had earlier got the status of institute but due to lack of working staff and non-availability of land, it was again converted into a centre.

"However, at present great efforts are being made in this direction. The higher officials are keenly working on it and fruitful results are expected in near future", added sources.
