A 150-year-old statue of St Xavier in front of a church was damaged by unidentified people leading to tension in Karungal area of Kanyakumari district in Madurai.

A 150-year-old statue of St Xavier in front of a church was damaged by unidentified people leading to tension in Karungal area of Kanyakumari district in Madurai.
Heavy police force have been deployed in Karungal after the incident, police said.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident which happened on Thursday following a complaint from the Church secretary.
Superintendent of Police Kabil Kumar has ordered the statue to be shifted to the Karungal police station for conducting forensic tests, police said.
