“With an objective to strengthen the organisation, the entire state has been divided into seven zones and 23 divisions. Around 16,300 units of the organisation exist in the state. The units in remaining districts would be formed and activated shortly,” Mishra said.

Talking to the media persons on the occasion of regional meeting of Mandal for Varanasi region at the Patel Dharamshala here on Sunday, he said that the organisation would now focus on ensuring active participation of youth and women.

A meeting of the Varanasi range, consisting of office bearers of 13 districts was held today where elaborate discussions were held over the problems of traders. Another such meeting would be held for Faizabad division on Monday at Faizabad.

Lashing out on the state government for its anti trader policies, he said the government was engaged in enhancing the trade tax despite hike in revenue by the traders. The hike in taxes would adversely affect the trade. Giving examples of other states, he said, government enhances taxes while it does not reduce the tax if other states have less percentage on any particular commodity.

He further stated that UP traders had to pay almost double tax on commodities like medicine and detergent, which is not fair. He specially lamented the increase in tax on detergents that would result in these detergent companies shifting their operations to Delhi or some other place where taxes were less just as the Pan Parag and gutkha manufacturers had done.

While commenting over the tax on petroleum products, he urged the State government to reduce percentage of tax, which is 25%, almost double the amount charged by the Delhi government. This he said has adversely affected the sale of petroleum products on filling stations of bordering areas. Heavy and light vehicles on way from Delhi to UP due to less tax, gets their fuel tanks filled in the national capital and this leads to losses for the petroleum traders in the State.

In the wake of the coming assembly election in the state, he urged the political parties other than SP to declare in their election manifesto about the interest of traders. The Udoyg Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal and traders would extend its support to the same party, willing to work for the interest of traders.
