After four hours of intense agitation by various student organizations, the V-C finally relented. But, the apology came not before student leaders forced closure of the campus, staged a road blockade and threw traffic our of gear for two hours on the varsity road.

Angry students gheraoed the Vice-Chancellor’s residence and asked him to come out and listen to their woes.

Their agitation intensified with the passage of every hour as the V-C and his team remained confined to the V-C’s residence and declined to hold talks with the student leaders. This upset the latter who sat in the middle of the road that held up traffic during the rush hour, causing problems to college-goers and commoners..

Watching students intensifying their agitation, cops on duty sought district administration officials to pacify the matter.

They too made desperate attempts to remove the road blockade but in vain. They then asked LU officials to speak to the agitated student leaders. But they were taken by surprise when the V-C and his men refused to oblige them.

Angry students started raising anti-V-C slogans. Around 3 pm, the staff of V-C’s residence announced that V-C would like to meet a small delegation of student leaders. A group of students along with district administration officials walked into the V-C’s residence to settle the issue.

Interestingly, the V-C instead of hearing the student leaders started shouting at them for their gross indiscipline. He visibly piqued as the student leaders were hurling expletives at him. The V-C also came hard at the student leaders for waving black flag to HRD minister Arjun Singh at the convocation pandal.

This rude behaviour of the V-C agitated the student leaders who once again shot expletives at his face. Somehow the supporting staff at V-C’s office and those representing district administration pacified the situation following V-C agreed to speak to only those ABVP activists who were injured in police lathicharge. After much deliberation the V-C tendered his apology, sources said.

It brought smiles on the faces of the student leaders especially those belonging to ABVP.

Elated student leaders came out happily from the V-C residence and announced it to those staging road blockage. Immediately, they lifted the blockage and left the place in the form of victory procession.

Earlier in the day, student bodies including AISA, SP student wing and other prominent student leaders of LU converged on the campus in support of the call given by the ABVP for the closure of the campus. They forced the closure of the campus that hit a number of classes. Some of the student groups burnt V-C’s effigy and shouted anti V-C slogans.
