The alleged suicide bid took place in Nabha Kotwali Police Station late on Friday night, SSP Arpit Shukla said adding the girl was admitted to a hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

Both the girl and the boy were arrested for their alleged improper behaviour in public, the SSP said.

The girl, who was not kept in the lock up, requested the policemen on duty to go to toilet, he said.

Instead of going to the toilet, she went to the retiring room and allegedly tried to hang herself from a ceiling fan, Shukla said.

Some policemen, however, saved her and took her to the hospital, he said adding an inquiry had been ordered into the alleged suicide bid.
