The lone survivor in the Uklana suicide pact, wherein four members of a missing rape victim's family have already died, tried to escape from the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, in the wee hours of Friday.
The Hisar police said the victim's 40-year-old father, who was recuperating at the PGIMS, tried to flee from the hospital. A police official said he was spotted three kilometre away from Rohtak in Mayna village after around three-hour chase.
"He has been readmitted to the hospital. We have deployed a security person to keep an eye on him and avoid such a situation in the future," the official said.
Meanwhile, the police shifted the Uklana station house officer (SHO), Jai Bhagwan, who is facing allegations of pressurising the victim's family. The SHO has been sent on leave pending inquiry. The additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Ashok Kumar Garg, has started investigating the incident.
The four members of the family who had died after consuming Celphos on Monday were the victim's mother, two brothers and a sister. The victim went missing in July 2012 after alleging rape in an FIR lodged against one Rohtash in May 2012. She is yet to be traced, while Rohtash is still behind bars.
The victim's family was allegedly being pressurised by the police to bring back the girl and forced them to take the extreme step. The family belongs to Bhairi Akbarpur village in Ukalna area, 50 km from Hisar.
