A 30-year-old man stabbed his wife in Dharavi on Thursday afternoon, as he suspected her of having an affair with her employer.
According to the Shahu Nagar police, Girish Rao, a garland seller from Dharavi stabbed his wife Deepa (28) with a knife in her employer, Ajimullah Khan’s (45) plastic godown on Thursday afternoon.
When Khan tried to help Deepa, Girish attacked him too. While Khan suffered bruises, Deepa, has been admitted to Sion hospital.
Girish had separated from Deepa five years ago. She lived with their two children at Naik Nagar in Dharavi, and Girish lived alone at Kawle chawl in the same area. Deepa started working at Khan’s godown after the separation.
“Even after having separated from Deepa, Girish had been forcing her to quit her job whenever he met her. He suspected that Deepa was having an affair with Khan. But, even after repeated warnings when Deepa was not ready to obey him, he decided to kill her,” said Senior Inspector Mahadev Gundewadi, of Dharavi police station.
“We have arrested Girish on charges of attempt to murder, verbal abuse and assault. He has been remanded to police custody,” Gundewadi added.
