THE NATIONAL Academy of Science (NAS), India will celebrate the National Technology Day on Thursday. On the occasion, a symposium will be organised on ?Advancements and scope in biotechnology?. Prof PK Seth, chief executive officer, Biotech Park, Lucknow and general secretary (HQ) of the NAS is the main organiser of the symposium.

On the occasion, a symposium will be organised on ‘Advancements and scope in biotechnology’. Prof PK Seth, chief executive officer, Biotech Park, Lucknow and general secretary (HQ) of the NAS is the main organiser of the symposium.
Prof AB Samaddar, director MNNIT will be the chief guest on this occasion while Prof CBL Srivastava, council member of the NAS will welcome the guests and participants of the symposium.
Several eminent scientists would speak in the technical sessions as Dr Qamar Rahman, emeritus scientist, ITRC, Lucknow will deliver lecture on ‘Nanotoxicology- a threat for ultrafine particles’. Prof Vijay Shankar Jaiswal, Department of Botany, BHU, Varanasi will give an illustrative talk on ‘Role of biotechnology in improvement of tropical fruit trees’.
In the next session, there will also be a discussion on scope of biotechnology for the budding scientists at center for biotechnology, Allahabad University and department of Botany, Allahabad University, under the co-ordination of Dr Anjana Pandey and Dr Richa Tandon respectively. Certificates would be distributed to the participants.
Seminar organised: A seminar ‘Challenges of Indian economy in the globalised era’ was organised by YMCA Centenary School and College. Dr KN Bhatt, Professor at GB Pant Institute of social Sciences, Jhunsi Allahabad was the key speaker, while justice RB Mehrotra was the guest of honour.
The seminar began with a song presented by the college choir group, penned by the founder principal BT Masih and composed by Dr Simmi Verma.
Dr Bhatt spoke extensively on challenges of Indian economy in the globalised era, on rudimentary economy and changes in the period after 1990. He also spoke about the Gandhian principle to work for the poorest in order to make progress. Thereafter, an interactive session was held in which students put forward their queries, which were answered in simple and beautiful manner.
