DIGAMBER JAIN Samaj Indore members today submitted a memorandum to District Collector Vivek Aggarwal demanding immediate action to prevent theft of idols from Jain temples.
In the memorandum, Samaj president Babulal Patodi informed that an idol of Lord Parshwnath and other silver, gold and metallic idols were stolen from Adinath Jinnalay and Chhatrapati Nagar on March 13.
The Samaj members urged the Collector to look into this matter, which was reported at Aerodrome police station. Another theft of idol of Lord Sheetalnath took place from Udasin Trust Ashram, Palasia on March 16.
The matter was reported at the Tukoganj police station. In spite of numerous cases of thefts from various temples and religious places, the police had not done much to recover the stolen idols.
The Samaj members alleged that Indore police had not shown interest in finding thieves in several such cases. Digamber Jain Samaj general secretary Nirmal Kasliwal said that the community would be forced to launch an agitation for the lack of tough action by the government.
He added that these idols are a symbol of the faith, trust and devotion of public and the theft from the religious centres of all the communities must be considered a serious social offence.
