"We have expedited work on the construction of interchanges and toll plazas. Plantation of greenery has also begun," said SK Dwivedi, CEO of the Yamuna authority. The 160-km expressway will actually be an extension of the existing 6-lane expressway from Noida to Greater Noida.

Land was acquired for the project in 334 villages of Gautam Budha Nagar and other districts. Five farmers were killed in police firing at Greater Noida in 2008, seeking greater price for their land acquired. Five farmers, who fought over township schemes, were killed in Aligarh last year.
