J Sriram, 24, was on Thursday remanded to 15 days judicial custody for sending emails contained “general threats” to Patil’s life and other members of her family.

He is lodged in the Central jail in Puzhal.

Sriram, working with Infosys, had sent 16 emails to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan on October 11 and 12, M Sudhakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, cyber crime cell, Chennai, told HT.

He has confessed to his crime, Sudhakar said. Adding that Sriram was disenchanted with the Indian political system.

However, Sriram claimed he did not have any devious intention in sending those emails.

Sriram has been arrested under various sections of IPC including 506(2) (criminal intimidation) and 507 (threat by communication), besides Sec 67 of the Information Technology Act (use of filthy language).
