Tejpal row: Future tense for staffers at Tehelka

With the law fast catching up with former editor Tarun Tejpal, and managing editor Shoma Chaudhury resigning on Thursday, the staffers said they were keeping their fingers crossed for the future. Some are worried with regard to even their salaries.

Journalists working at Tehelka are uncertain about their future and that of the magazine.

With the law fast catching up with former editor Tarun Tejpal, and managing editor Shoma Chaudhury resigning on Thursday, the staffers said they were keeping their fingers crossed for the future. Some are worried with regard to even their salaries.

The magazine is staffed by over 40 people, including journalists, who work out of the publication’s two offices in Delhi.

“Six editors have already put in their papers. The editor is missing. Now with Chaudhury resigning, there is a complete leadership vacuum in the organisation,” said a journalist who didn’t want to be identified.

“We are not even sure if we will get our salaries at the end of the month. I don’t know how this magazine is going to stay afloat now. I do not have a job at hand and the future worries me no end,” said another staffer.
