Telgi case: Court seeks action against officials

Disciplinary action is sought against some officials of Pune Central Jail in the Abdul Karim Telgi case.

A Delhi court on Wednesday sought disciplinary action against some officials of Pune Central Jail alleging they did not produce Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in a multi-crore fake stamp paper scam case, through video-conferencing at the fixed time for hearing.

Additional Sessions Judge Mamtal Sehgal of a special court directed the court clerk to send the letter to the Jail Superintendent of Yerrawada jail, Pune, where Telgi is lodged in connection with several fake stamp paper cases, for taking proper action against erring prison officials for not complying with its order.

"I am sitting from 2:00 to 2:40 pm and the jail authorities at Pune are not producing Telgi for reasons best known to them," said ASJ Sehgal directing that the copy of the order alongwith the letter be sent to the Superintendent.

On the last date of hearing itself, the time of the hearing, which was fixed at 2:00 pm, was communicated to the jail officials but, as a matter of fact, the accused was not produced at the fixed time, she said.

The court also issued notices to the authorised representative of the CBI and its counsel as both failed to appear before it.

The ASJ was hearing a case wherein Telgi with the help of five Delhi Police officials allegedly got his business rivals implicated in a fake stamp paper case.
