Most of the shops and business establishments remained shut in protest of the incident.
A statue of Annabhau Sathe was allegedly desecrated at Sathe Nagar in Partur after which members of ‘Matang´ community thronged the police station demanding to book the miscreants, they said.
The police have registered a case against the unidentified persons.
Sniffer dogs were also pressed in to get a clue about offenders but it did not work, they said.
Various social and political organisations including Bharip Bhaujan Mahsangh Shivsena, Nationalist Congress Party and Congress condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Jalna town following the incident. The police made elaborate security arrangements at the sensitive areas of the town. Few buses of the state transport were damaged in stone pelting by a mob.
The incident of a mob damaging three state transport buses was reported from Basmatnagar tehsil of Hingoli district.
