The day after: Temple town bounces back

Some Opposition leaders, who were here, demanded the CM?s resignation and imposition of President?s rule. The STF was well equipped to conduct the investigations, he said.

CHIEF MINISTER Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday announced a probe into lapses, if any, that led to explosions here, even as a galaxy of VIPs visited the city in the aftermath of terror Tuesday. Some Opposition leaders, who were here, demanded the CM’s resignation and imposition of President’s rule.
Talking to mediapersons after visiting the blast site and meeting the injured, the chief minister said he would not tolerate any laxity.
The STF was well equipped to conduct the investigations, he said. There was also perfect coordination between the Central and the State Government agencies and he hoped that the investigations would be carried out expeditiously on the pattern of the probe into the terrorist attack on Ayodhya, he said adding, the STF had worked out the Ayodhya case within a month.
To a question about Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s visit to the temple town in the wee hours of Wednesday, the CM said he had no objection to her visit. It was good that she paid a visit, he said. Lauding the STF for killing a terrorist at Gosaiganj in Lucknow, he said it had proved Pakistan’s involvement.
No one would be allowed to take the law into the hands, he said, adding that he had asked officers to maintain the peace. People belonging to all sections of society had come forward to maintain peace at such a crucial juncture, he said.
Meanwhile, apart from the CM, BJP chief Rajnath Singh, former chief minister Kalyan Singh, BSP supremo Mayawati, VHP international executive president Ashok Singhal, Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu, Kalraj Mishra and State BJP chief Keshari Nath Tripathi visited the blast sites and the injured on Wednesday.
Mayawati demanded dismissal of the Mulayam Government and imposition of Presidents rule. She said the government could not escape the responsibility of the terror attack.
BJP chief Rajnath Singh also demanded Central rule in the state.
“The UPA Government’s repeal of POTA boosted the morale of the terrorists, paving the way for attacks in the country.” “There is hardly any sensitive place in India which has remained unaffected by terrorist acts,” Singh said and announced that the issue would be raised in Parliament and on the streets.
Ashok Singhal demanded a ban on madrasas, saying terrorists got their initial training in these institutions. Singhal held Pakistan responsible for the terrorist activities in India.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu announced free medicare facilities to the injured and Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
