Rathie a young girl form a remote village, working in a Suburban garment factory, falls in love with a young soldier. One day she realizes that she is pregnant.
She becomes the victim of a social catastrophe when her lover Shanta, a married man, finds out. She faces a dilemma. According to the laws in Sri Lanka abortions are totally illegal and yet she cannot face the world with a child without a father.
Rathi can neither abort, nor give birth to her child. The onset of free economy after 1977 overturned Sri Lanka's entire social structure. Everyone freely went for what they want without a proper social, legal and political infrastructure to buttress their activities.
All of them lost their soul in the process of searching for it.
