Thieves ransack temples

THIEVES TARGETTED four temples in Chakia, Anandpuram and Karbala areas under Dhumanganj police station last night and stole idols and other articles related with religious rites worth several lakhs.

THIEVES TARGETTED four temples in Chakia, Anandpuram and Karbala areas under Dhumanganj police station last night and stole idols and other articles related with religious rites worth several lakhs.

Dog squad and fingerprint experts could do trace the thieves. The chain of events has sent shockwaves in the area and people have demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

"If this does not happen we shall be forced to resort to agitation" said some residents and devotees.

Thieves first targetted the Shiva temple in Anandpuram and took away the brass bell, trishul, two small brass bells, watch, brass tumbler, achmani, argha (brass), akhand dweep, brass throne, two brass idols of Ganesha, Laxmi's idol and several other articles. Next they entered another temple hardly fifty metres away and took away the idols along with seven big brass bells. People came to know about the theft early in the morning and informed the Dhumanganj police.
Meanwhile, police said, theft took place only in one temple.
