Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) worth Rs 45,000 crore for the nation during the visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) worth Rs 45,000 crore for the nation during the visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, on Friday.

In all, he launched several schemes relating to power and road sectors worth about Rs 50,000 crore. “This visit of mine will change the fate of Kashi,” said the PM.

Under the IPDS, projects covering 247 cities have been sanctioned so far. This includes projects worth Rs 1,067 crore for 23 circles in Uttar Pradesh covering 91 cities. Under the scheme, Varanasi gets Rs 572 crore for overall improvement in power supply. The IPDS aims at providing affordable and reliable power supply to urban households by strengthening transmission and distribution network in urban areas. Overhead power supply wires will be replaced by underground cables.

Union power minister Piyush Goyal accompanied the PM who laid the foundation of ring road worth Rs 267.34 crore and the Varanasi-Babatpur four-lane project worth Rs 629.74 crore.

PM Modi a dedicated a trauma centre in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and inaugurated a passenger reservation facility at the Ramnagar post office.

“I think there is another sector that should be developed in a big way — the personal sector, the human capital,” Modi added.
