Chairman of the welcoming committee, Prof RK Mani Tripathi, congratulated the organisers for inspiring people to raise their voice against harassment and injustice. He expressed hope that the Film Mahotsava would help establish Gorakhpur on the national film horizon.

Divisional president of Jansanskriti Manch, Prof Rajendra Kumar, said his organisation had decided to celebrate the 75th Martyr Day of Bhagat Singh as the symbol of protest against capitalism. He said a new trend to oppose unwanted things was the need of the hour. Presiding over the inaugural session, vice-chancellor of DDU Gorakhpur University, Prof Arun Kumar, said the university would cooperate in such programmes. The festival began with a video drama entitled ‘Nirupama Dutt Main Bahut Udaas Hoon’ by a theater group of Kolkata.
