If you are keen to form a better strategy during formal discussions, focus on 'listening' more in order to obtain information. Always maintain 2:1 ratio in terms of listening and talking. Here are some tips to give an upper hand.

You will earn more respect from the other party if you listen to them.

Look at the person who is talking to you and make good eye contact.

Your expressions should show that you are interested in what the other person is saying and are actively listening to him or her.

Don’t use listening time for planning your answers. Make notes and take your time before responding.

Ask questions, this helps to clear doubts and also increases your rapport with the other party.

Lean forward and talk to the person — this helps to receive more support from the person.n
