To listen or not to listen
If you are keen to form a better strategy during formal discussions, focus on 'listening' more in order to obtain information. Always maintain 2:1 ratio in terms of listening and talking. Here are some tips to give an upper hand.
1 You will earn more respect from the other party if you listen to them.
2 Look at the person who is talking to you and make good eye contact.
3 Your expressions should show that you are interested in what the other person is saying and are actively listening to him or her.
4 Don’t use listening time for planning your answers. Make notes and take your time before responding.
5 Ask questions, this helps to clear doubts and also increases your rapport with the other party.
6 Lean forward and talk to the person — this helps to receive more support from the person. n
