Police fired tear gas on Tuesday as they chased away about 200 protesters who entered the heavily guarded diplomatic enclave in Pakistan's capital to demonstrate against the Prophet Muhammad cartoons.
The protesters were among about 4,000 who attended a march in Islamabad that was organised by lawmakers.
US Embassy staffers were confined to their compound until police expelled the protesters from the fenced-off diplomatic enclave.
