The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday opposed an application filed by 69 convicts in the 1993 bomb blasts case urging the court to treat them on par with actor Sanjay Dutt by amending the verdict. They also urged the court to convict them under Arms Act or Indian penal Code while removing them from the ambit of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act (TADA).

CBI prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, making oral submissions, said the application was not tenable. It cannot survive as the petitioners want amendment of the verdict which cannot be done after the court had held them guilty. Judge PD Kode asked the prosecutor to file written reply and deferred the matter to February 7.
