THE MISSING woman Phool Bai Adivasi returned to her home yesterday morning after managing to escape from the house where she had been sold for Rs. 20,000. The police are investigating the case.

A young adivasi woman married with one but forced to live with other two and later she was sold for Rs. 20,000. The woman's father Punni Sour Adivasi, resident of village Samnapur, some 55 km from district headquarter under the Deori police station, while talking to Hindustan Times, informed that he had married his daughter Phool Bai about a year back with Bablu Singh Pal, who is resident of village Karyari of district Hameerpur of Uttar Pradesh.

The local community member Chukhai Sour, resident of village Prasiya, had brought the marriage proposal. Punni informed that Chukhai contacted his family and said that the Thakur family of UP wanted a girl for marriage.

He lured Punni Sour by promising a high living standard for the girl if she was married there. Punni married his elder daughter to Bablu without visiting the in-laws' house. Chukhai was the only man who had performed the pre-marriage rituals at the house of in-laws, he did not give any chance to Punni to visit village Karyari.

According to Hindu rituals, when Punni went to bring back the girl one week after the marriage, the in-laws told him that according to their rituals they could not send back the daughter-in-law before one year.

Few months later in January this year, when he went there again to take the girl back, the family members told him that the girl had been sent back to her house and she was not there.

When Punni pressurized them to tell the truth about the girl, the family members threatened to kill him and beat him brutally. Punni alleged that neighbours informed him that the Bablu had given the girl to his maternal uncle Gyarsi Singh and his relative Papu Singh.

Both raped the helpless girl for a long time. Later Gyarsi sold the girl to an unknown man. Phool Bai informed that nearly eight months back, Gyarsi took her from Bablu's house and sent her with another man Mangal of village Anghora claming that Bablu did not want to keep her.

At the Mangal's house, she came to know that Gyarsi had taken Rs. 20,000 and sold her to them. In the month of November she managed to run away from Mangal's house but she was not able to find the way back to Sagar as she is illiterate.
