Tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi

SEVERAL FUNCTIONS and meets were organised to commemorate the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi here in Varanasi on Monday.

Activists of the District Congress Committee organised a meet at the Englishialine area in his memory.

The speakers were of the view that Gandhiji devoted his entire life in search of truth and got the country free from the clutches of the British rule.

Presiding over the meet, District Congress Committee president Satish Chaubey called upon the Congressmen to follow the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi and serve human beings without any discrimination.

Former MLC Rajeshpati Tripathi, Mahanagar Congress Committee president Vijay Shanker Mehta, All-India Congress Committee member Anil Srivastava, Prof Yogendra Singh, Prof Laxmi Dubey, Dr Umapati Upadhyay and Dr Arvind Kishore Rai were among others who addressed the meeting.

Mahanagar Sonia Gandhi Brigade organised a condolence meet at the Town Hall Ground in Maidagin area. Brigade president Pramod Verma said that Mahatma Gandhi not only got the nation free from British rule but also contributed magnificently towards the development of the country.

Prominent among other leaders who participated in the condolence meet included Girish Mishra, Shailendra Malviya, Gopal Yadav, Hanuman Sahni and Shaquil Ahmed.
