The TC workers entered the prohibitory order bound area suddenly as the police led by IGP (Western Range) Arun Gupta and DIG N R Babu were busy at Chanditala where party supporters had assembled for a march to Singur to protest the acquisition of farmland for the project, sources said.

The two posts had been erected to demarcate the land for the Tata project, the police said.

Officials of the Tata Motors and state government were gheraoed on Monday.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were in force in the area, which had witnessed violent protests against the project by the Trinamool Congress-led Krishi Jami Raksha Committee over the past few months.
