A patient died late on Wednesday night after being denied admission at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where a flash strike was on to protest the sacking of its director.
Sarvesh Kumar, who was suffering from a heart ailment, was brought to the country's premier medical institute from Farukhabad in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, but the striking doctors asked his family to take him to the adjacent Safdarjang Hospital, according to the patient's relatives.
However, the 35-year-old man died while being taken to the other hospital.
AIIMS medical superintendent DK Sharma refused to comment on the incident.
A section of the institute's resident doctors and faculty were on a 24-hour flash strike to protest the AIIMS governing body's decision earlier on Wednesday to sack director P Venugopal for "violating the code of conduct".
