TVS Motors on Monday launched its latest offering — a 110-cc scooter, Jupiter, in a bid to strengthen its presence in the segment and fan out into the north Indian market.

Jupiter follows the company’s earlier lineup of two-wheelers such as Scooty Pep, Scooty Streak and Wego models. It has a five-litre fuel tank and the company claims it will give a mileage of 62 km per litre (kmpl). The model also has 17 litres of under seat storage facility, ‘body balance’ technology and large alloy wheels. The scooter will sell in Delhi with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 44,200.

“We are concentrating on the north India market now and will bring this product into South India in November, during Diwali,” said Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS.

Admitting that the company had not reached out to its male customer base looking for performance and style, Srinivasan expressed confidence in TVS’ future performance and meeting planned targets.

The scooter segment, despite the overall gloom in the Indian auto market, is also growing 14% year-on-year.

“We were slower in coming out with new products,” said Srinivasan but promised a new product launch every quarter from now on. “Come January, TVS will be out with its TVS Zest, a souped-up Scooty.”

He also said the company was looking at selling 30,000 units (of both Wego and Jupiter) by April 2014.
