The incident occurred during a long-range patrolling in the naxal-affected areas of Ghatsila sub-division, where the district police and CRPF had launched a massive combing operation to flush out extremists, police said. The patrolling team were moving on foot when the blast took place between Rajabasa-Kirodari village. Police superintendent Navin Kumar Singh, who rushed to the spot, said a havildar and a jawan were critically injured in the landmine blast.

Unofficial sources claimed that one of the injured succumbed to his injuries.
