The Central Bureau of Investigation has unearthed properties worth crores, besides cash and gold, owned by two Income Tax officials, agency sources said on Saturday.
The illegal wealth came to light during raids conducted by the CBI after one of the officials was caught allegedly taking bribe on behalf of his senior on Thursday.
Income Tax officer TV Mohan, who was allegedly detained by the CBI for accepting a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh on behalf of his senior, Additional Commissioner KM Keshkamat, from a real estate agent to clear his I-T assessment records in suburban Borivli, was formally arrested today, agency officials said.
A chartered accountant, identified only as Deepak, who was allegedly involved in the case, has also been arrested, they said.
"Keshkamat has been detained and would be arrested later in the day," the officials said, adding further search is on to ascertain the exact unaccounted property of Keshkamat.
During the raids, CBI officials came across three flats owned by Keshkamat valued at Rs 1.30 crore, Rs 85 lakh and Rs 82 lakh each in Hiranandani Complex in neighbouring Thane district.
