Two security men killed in encounter
Two Assam Rifles jawans were killed in an encounter with militants in Bishenpur district of Manipur.
Two Assam Rifles (AR) jawans were killed in an encounter with militants at Thanga Heisnam Leikai area in Bishenpur district of Manipur early today, official sources said.
A R personnel of 8th battalion who launched a massive manhunt at Thanga heisnam leikai area, about 45 kms south-east of here, were attacked by militants who gunned down two jawans on the spot.
Earlier official reports had said one suspected militant was killed and an A R jawan injured.
Latest official reports said the Assam Rifles personnel acting on a tip-off raided a hideout at the Thanga Heisnam Leikai hilly area located just by the side of Loktak lake, the biggest fresh water lake in the north east.
As the security personnel pushed the door of the hideout, the militants who were hiding there opened fire killing the two jawans instantaneously, sources said, adding the security men also returned fire. Casualty, if any, among the militants is yet to be ascertained, sources said.
