Panic gripped in the posh Trikuta Nagar locality in Jammu on Saturday morning following unidentified assailants gunning down alleged underworld and Finance Company owner Sanjay Kumar Gupta alias Bakra.

Following the killing of Bakra, police sounded an alert and picked up a number of criminals from different localities to avoid any clash between the rival gang members.

On Saturday at around 9:20 am Bakra reached outside the house of Dr RP Kudyar in sector-4, Trikuta Nagar and parked his silver coloured Santro Car bearing registration number JK02W-8117 in the middle of the road.

When he entered inside the house, two unidentified assailants that were coming out of the house opened fire from a pistol from a close range, which resulted into on the death of Bakra on teh spot.

"The deceased was shot dead by two unidentified persons that had posed as patients and were waiting for their turn to meet Dr RP Kudyar at his residential clinic," said Ashwani Sharma, attendant of Dr Kudyar.

He added, "The unidentified assailants were two in number and one who was a healthy man wore a black jacket and registered his name as Rajesh in the patients' list."

Soon after the incident Jammu SSP Mukesh Singh, SP City South Zahid Manhas, SDPO East Mamta Sharma and police station Trikuta Nagar SHO, Inspector Parshotam Mengi rushed to the spot and called the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team.

SSP Jammu Mukesh Singh said that "a case has been registered and investigation has been initiated. Working on two to three theories, several suspects have been rounded up and hopefully the accused would soon be behind bars."

"I don't know what happened exactly. I heard two gun shots and ran downstairs where I saw one young man almost dead," said Dr Kudyar and added, "The deceased was not my patient, I hadn't seen him in the past."

However, two younger brothers and mother of the deceased also reached the spot. Sanjeev Gupta alias Bobby, a Dogra Liberation Front (DLF) leader and Bakra's brother alleged, "It was the handiwork of a rival group and also blamed the hand of the police in it."

Police have recovered his mobile phone and one country made short-gun lying near his body.

Bakra, a resident of Jain Bazaar locality in Jammu in the old city area, owned Mahajan Finance Company at Residency Road and was allegedly involved in a number of murder cases, attempt to murders and stabbing. The deceased and his other gang members had rivalry with the gang of Sikander Arora alias Billoo who was murdered inside the District Jail, Jammu in 1997 besides another new gang of Vipan Bhoot and Sethu and absconder Sanjay Sharma and his associates.

After the team of FSL collected evidences from the spot, the body was shifted to GMC&H for post-mortem. Later, after the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family members for last rites.

Different theories. May, may not be?

If Bakra was accompanied by some person in his car, who fled away after hearing the gunshots.

Bakra never moved outside alone and was always being accompanied by his associates. How come Bakra reached Trikuta Nagar locality all alone?

Who were the persons who called him on his mobile phone from a local PCO thrice?

Is there any person-a very close aide of Bakra-that gave him a call following which the deceased having no doubts on the loyalty of the aide came all the way alone.

Did the different rival gang members get together to plan up the execution?

Who could have got the major benefit after the death of Bakra?
