Unruly mob sets property of the accused on fire

No sooner than the body of the youth Bobby Chaurasia arrived in the area, his sympathizers enraged over the murder, entered into the houses of Neelam Suri and Nirmala, two out of the five accused in case, and tried to set their property on fire. However, timely intervention of the police stopped the mob from doing so. The police, it may be recalled, had already arrested Neelam and Nirmala on Sunday.
However, the angry mob succeeded in setting a scooter standing near their houses on fire.
It is pertinent to mention that Bobby’s body was found floating near a pond after he was allegedly murdered. The youth was missing from his house since November 23. The kin of the deceased had alleged the hand of ex-corporator Neelam Suri and four others behind the murder.
Later, kin and local people also stage a road blockade at Harjinder Nagar Crossing by keeping the dead body on the road. However, when police tried to clear the traffic, the enraged mob resorted to violence and started creating ruckus. On receiving the information, the police force from four circles along with SP (west) reached the spot and tried to pacify the mourners.
Failing to control the mob, the police resorted to lathi charge. However, the same added fuel to fire and the mob resorted to stone pelting resulting in injuries to several including few police personnel.
After hours of drama, the police took the dead body into their possession and detained the kin of the deceased. The cremation of the deceased was done under the supervision of the police. Following the violence, the police arrested several on charges of spreading violence. Keeping in view the tense situation, heavy police force was deployed in the area.
