Anticipating drought like conditions in 2010-11, the district administration has chalked out a special 'drought management strategy' to deal with the anticipated conditions effectively.
At a meeting, chaired by Anticipating drought like conditions in 2010-11, the district administration has chalked out a special 'drought management strategy' to deal with the anticipated conditions effectively here on Sunday, officials of all the departments concerned including minor irrigation, power and rural engineering were directed for ensuring implementation of all the necessary measures to deal with the situation.
Prasad directed for ensuring repair of all the hand pumps that had remained out of order for some time, latest by May 30, 2010 besides reboaring of all the defective handpumps should also be completed in the prescribed deadline.
The DM further directed for getting all the defective hand pumps on a priority basis in those villages which were at more risk of being effected with anticipated drought besides installation of handpumps in requisite numbers should also be completed in those villages, wherein water was provided through tankers last year.
Referring to the storage of water in canals and ponds of the district, Prasad directed all the executive engineers of Irrigation department for ensuring filling up of the same and subsequently providing a list of it to the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDM), who in turn would carry out verification of the works done.
He further stated that in view of the present climatic conditions, water would have to be provided through tankers in about 20 villages of Bara and Meja tehsils besides in 25 villages of Koraon tehsil of the district.
According to the DM, in case of occurrence of a natural calamity, the respective SDM will immediately begin relief work and will also inform the district monitoring cell at telephone numbers 1077, 2250156 and 2641577.
The monitoring cell began functioning from May 1, 2010 and will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Further, the telephone numbers of monitoring cell of Jal Sansthan are 2617371 and 2618835 respectively.
