UP police gears up for Babri Masjid case verdict

In the wake of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Delhi and Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh taking place at almost the same time, the state police have decided to deploy additional forces and specially trained commandos in the twin-cities of Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.

Officials also said the UP government was keeping an eye on the possible verdict in the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid case, which is pending at the Allahabad High Court. “We are gearing up to prevent any further deterioration of the law and order situation,” said UP Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal.

The ADG also admitted that crime was on the rise in the twin cities. “The crime is on the rise in the twin cities and we are replenishing the police force in the districts, with additional forces during the month of September and October to keep a check on criminal activities during the Games and also during the Panchayat elections,” Lal said on Thursday in Ghaziabad. The twin cities are expecting the arrival of a large number of foreign visitors during the CWG events.
