The budget session began on February 8 with the Governor's address to the joint sitting of the state legislature. It witnessed passage of many bills apart from tabling of the state budget.

While the opposition Samajwadi Party, BJP, Congress and RLD tried to corner the government on the issues of rising prices, implementation of VAT and poor law and order, the government showcased its achievements during the past 10 months.

Earlier in the day the Appropriation Bill amounting to over Rs 1.22 lakh crore was passed. The bill was tabled by Finance Minister Lalji Verma and was passed by a voice-vote.
