“The main opposition BJP led NDA raise issues like terrorism, Pakistan, Jinnah—but its leadership would shy away from raising the basic issue of ‘poverty’, the Dalits, Adivasia, backward classes and common people are facing in the country,” Gandhi said during an election rally in Ballabgarh, around 8 km from Faridabad on Saturday. Haryana goes to polls on October 13.

He said, while the opposition was try its best to ignore the issue of poverty and rake up non-issues, UPA government was doing every thing possible to mitigate sufferings of the poor and common people in the country.
Lauding the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana he said, it had left no stone unturned to once again bring the state back on the path of development.

“The opposition wanted to hide the issue of poverty. This was reflected in ‘India Shinning’ campaign launched by BJP led NDA leadership in 2004 Parliamentary polls,” Gandhi said.

Elaborating on the issue of poverty, Gandhi said one of the minister’s from England had recently met him and wanted to know reasons behind India’s prosperity. “I told him that if you really want to go into depth of the issue, you need to accompany me to rural areas,” Gandhi said, adding, “he agreed and accompanied me to a rural area, tasted food and slept there for the night.”
