Urban renewal: Depts send in plans, budget

A LAYOUT has been prepared by the respective departments of the city under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). A comprehensive plan of Rs 3331.75 crore has been prepared for a period of five years starting from 2005 to 2010 by nine government departments of the city.

A LAYOUT has been prepared by the respective departments of the city under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). A comprehensive plan of Rs 3331.75 crore has been prepared for a period of five years starting from 2005 to 2010 by nine government departments of the city.

The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has prepared a project of Rs 1519 crore under the Integrated Road Development Project. This project would cover a stretch of 225 km of the city roads. New roads and repair of dilapidated ones would be carried out under this project.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared a project of Rs 92.70 crore to take care of drainage system of southern parts of the city. During the monsoon almost the entire south converts into a pond due to water logging. Residents of south city areas have been demanding a proper drainage system for the past several years.

A separate project of Rs 50 crore has been made by Jal Nigam for improving drainage system in the rest of the city.

While the Jal Sansthan has prepared two separate projects of Rs 300 crore and Rs 150 crore for improving water supply and sewerage system of the city, most areas of the city have old sewer lines laid down during the British period.

Choked sewer lines have led to outbreak of several diseases in the recent past.

Several parts of the city reel under acute water crisis during summer and a project for improving water supply to the city was much in demand.

The Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has prepared a project of Rs 270 crore for taking care of drainage of water, construction of roads, footpaths, parks and disposal of solid waste among other things.

The Irrigation department has prepared a project of Rs 3.62 crore for improving ‘Ghats’ of the city. A separate project of Rs 30 crore has also been prepared by the Irrigation department for the construction of ‘Ghats’ at Bithoor. The Tourism department of the city has earmarked another Rs 3 crore for the construction of ‘Ghats’ in the city. A Rs 2.85 crore project has also been prepared by the Tourism department for the maintenance of Nanarao Park.

Emphasising on the development of new industrial areas of the city, UPSIDC has prepared a project of Rs 893.03 crore for the development of an industrial area between Kanpur city and headquarters of Kanpur dehat, Mati.

For carrying out housing projects in the city, Awas Vikas has prepared a project of Rs 17.55 crore, while DUDA is yet to submit its proposal.
