Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam’s (MDMK) Vaiko alleged on Friday that the DMK had offered Vijayakanth Rs 500 crore, besides other allurements, to join its alliance.
DMK reacted by issuing Vaiko a legal notice on Friday evening for making wild allegations and defaming party patriarch M Karunanidhi. Vaiko was also asked to express regret and withdraw his defamatory statement within seven days or face civil and criminal action. Party treasurer and former deputy chief minister MK Stalin confirmed that the legal notice was issued.
Two days after netting the most sought after political star — DMDK’s Vijayakanth — Peoples’ Welfare Front leader Vaiko made these charges. In an interaction with the media at Madurai airport on Friday morning, Vaiko alleged DMK had offered Rs 500 crore and 80 seats to lure Vijayakanth to its fold for the assembly polls. He also levelled similar charges against BJP, which was also prepared to give money, a Rajya Sabha seat and ministership to Vijayakanth’s party if he chose to stick with NDA in the polls.
