The “short volume” in Hindi along with its English translation is likely to be released in October, sources close to the BJP leader said.

The book will cover all important events and major projects of the NDA government at that time. “Vajpayee would seek to explain what prompted those decisions,” a source said.

Vajpayee shared his book plans with noted writer and India’s candidate for the post of UN secretary-general, Shashi Tharoor, when the latter called on him on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Tharoor said: “We discussed about writing. I wanted him to write some more poetry. He confided in me that he was working on a book... in fact his memoirs. I hope the world will await that with interest.”

The book may also carry references to Kargil, the Kandahar hijack and the post-Godhra violence, which Vajpayee himself has admitted to have contributed to NDA’s debacle in the last Lok Sabha polls.

The reference to Kandahar will be of wide interest in the wake of LK Advani’s recent attempts to distance himself from the “soft decision” on it.
