VC inaugurates admission process 2006
THE SALE of admission forms for the under-graduate courses of Allahabad University (AU) began at the Pravesh Bhawan from Tuesday morning with heavy rush of students. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe inaugurated the start of the admission process 2006 amidst tight security cordon put in place in anticipation of the opposition from some student leaders demanding reservations for OBC, restoration of Urdu/Arabic quota and lowering of the fee.

AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe inaugurated the start of the admission process 2006 amidst tight security cordon put in place in anticipation of the opposition from some student leaders demanding reservations for OBC, restoration of Urdu/Arabic quota and lowering of the fee.
As per the schedule, the sale of Under Graduate Admission Test (UGAT) -2006 forms will continue till May 15 on all days, including holidays, from 10 am to 2 pm. The UGAT will be held on June 22 and 23. Students will be able to submit duly filled up forms by May 15 without any late fee. The students will still be able to deposit the forms for the next two days with a late fee of Rs 100.
The price of admission forms for all courses have been fixed at Rs 250 per form with the only exception being the SC/ST and the physically handicapped who can procure the forms at Rs 100. The forms will also be available for the AU's class III and IV employees for Rs 100, a decision regarding which was taken only on Tuesday.
It is to be recalled that the sale of admission forms for the post-graduate courses of the varsity will begin only from May 27 and continue till June 5 and the Post Graduate Admission Test-2006 will be held between June 27 and July 2.
The admission forms for the Law courses of Allahabad University (AU) will be sold from May 8 to May 22 from the branches of the Punjab National Bank. The Admission Test for the Law UG course (LLB) will be held on July 3 while for the PG (LLM) course it will be held on July 5.
On day one, a separate counter for girls, two for general category students and one separate counter for SC/ST was used for the distribution of 5600 forms. The varsity authorities have made arrangements to open two more counters at any moment when the rush is more. For depositing the filled up forms, a total of 11 counters will be utilised, UGAT-2006 Director Prof AP Sinha informed.
Prof Sinha said that May 15 is the last date for the forms to reach Pravesh Bhawan through post. "The duplicate admit cards will be distributed from the Pravesh Bhawan counter from June 17 to June 20. We will declare the UGAT-2006 results between June 29 and July 1 and begin the admissions from July 8.
The plan is to complete the admissions by July 23 and begin the academic session by July 24," he added.
No quota for OBCs
THE ADMISSIONS are being made this year at Allahabad University (AU) only against the sanctioned seats and there would be no reservations for the OBC students.
As a result, for BA there are a total of 2390 seats for which the fee for general student and OBC will be Rs 924, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 180 and for employee wards it will be Rs 380. For BSc (Maths) there are 420 seats for which the fee for general and OBC students will be Rs 1074, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 330 and for employee wards it will be Rs 530.
Similarly for BSc (Biology) there are 200 seats for which the fee of a general category and OBC students would be Rs 1074, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 330 and for employee wards will be Rs 530.For BSc (Applied Science) there are 30 seats for which the fee of general category and OBC students would be Rs 1074, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 330 and for employee wards it will be Rs 530 while for BSc (Home Science) there are 30 seats for which the fee of a general category student and OBC would be Rs 1074, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 330 and for employee wards it will be Rs 530. For BCom there are 375 seats for which the fee of general category student and OBC would be Rs 924, for SC/ST students it will be Rs 180 and for employee wards it will be Rs 380.
However, for admission in Photography course, students of all categories will have to pay an additional Rs 2,000 per year while for admission in Computer Maintenance course students of all category will have to pay an additional Rs 4000 per year.
