CPM leader Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday described the judicial verdict in Bhopal gas disaster case as 'unfortunate' urging Central Government to go in for an appeal against it in a higher court.

The investigation into the case was not carried out properly, Yechury told reporters here, adding that a fresh inquiry was needed to be set up to give justice to those affected by the tragedy.

On the IPL controversy, he said it reflected excesses of capitalism and reiterated the party demand for constitution of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to find out the facts regarding the massive money pumped into the league.

Yechury said the Left parties would analyse the setback they suffered in West Bengal municipal elections but denied that it was an indication of their deteriorating influence in the state. The results also did not warrant an early assembly poll, he added.
