Vettel edged overall championship leader Jenson Button of Brawn GP by just over one-tenth of a second to earn his third career starting line spot.

Button fills the front row ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello, who will line up alongside Red Bull's Mark Webber. Toyota's Jarno Trulli starts fifth.

Three-time defending Turkish champion Felipe Massa of Ferrari starts seventh, while McLaren's Lewis Hamilton failed to get out of the first qualifying session and will start 16th for the 58-lap race.
