Villagers clash with police in Maya’s village

About 30 people were injured when villagers clashed with the police during a protest rally at at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's village Badalpur near Greater Noida.

About 30 people were injured when villagers clashed with the police during a protest rally at at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's village Badalpur near Greater Noida.

The clashes happened when police and PAC men tried to disperse villagers protesting under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti against what they called "selective acquisition" of around 250 acres of land of these villages around Mayawati's spacious bungalow in Badalpur.

Villagers pelted stones at the cops who resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse them. Around 30 persons were injured in the clash including villagers, constables.

Congress leaders including Digvijay Singh, Sachin Pilot and Rita Bahuguna Joshi who were scheduled to take part in the rally were arrested while trying to reach the village earlier in the day.

The district administration had not given permission for the protest rally, issuing prohibitory orders in the area besides making some preventive arrests on Monday night.

SP(Greater Noida) Babu Ram said: "300 protesting villagers were arrested and later released on bond in the evening. 80 of them were females."
