Residents of remote areas of Sarkaghat sub-division are living under constant fear of child-lifter gangs after a woman was allegedly attacked at her home after she saved her seven-month-old girl from getting abducted on September 2.
They have started monitoring the presence of migrants from neighbouring states in the area.
Amid all precautions taken by locals, an unidentified miscreant allegedly attacked a woman at her house in Riyur Chanetar village of Dharampur area of Sarkaghat subdivision on Friday evening.
The woman identified as Tamanna revealed that she was alone in her room when a person wearing military dress and his face covered with a cloth attacked her and tried to drag her to another room.
Meanwhile, Tamanna's sister-in-law heard her screams of help and raised the alarm, following which the accused fled the spot. Tamanna informed the police. The police have alerted nearby police stations.
Meanwhile, residents of Tirjajar village on seeing an outsider in the market on Thursday caught him and beat him up on suspicion. However, he later showed his identity card and identified himself as employee of Airtel mobile service company, who had come to the market to get the generator tank filled with.
People of the area demanded setting up of police patrolling posts for quick action on the complaint or information to avoid direct confrontations with strangers on suspicion.
Villagers also demanded registration and monitoring of migrants who come here for doing business or to work as labourers with construction companies through patrolling posts.
Sarkaghat police station SHO Virender Jaswal has warned the locals not to manhandle unidentified persons and inform the police if he/she fails to provide proper identification.
