The editorial Basic rules of protection (Our Take, November 5) provides the much-needed balanced view on the issue of VIP security. The security personnel accompanying all dignitaries should have some responsibility and professionalism while dealing with the common man. Our mindset that the number of security personnel accompanying a VIP determines how important he is needs to change. There is no denying that important people need security cover. But politicians should also ensure that their movement shouldn’t disturb other people.
