Warne’s words spurred me on: Yusuf Pathan

It was a challenge when I went out to bat last night, because we were in a spot of trouble. I walked in and a pumped up Graeme Smith said, “Yusuf, you play the way Yusuf does and we will win.”
With that piece of advice in my mind, I knew what I needed to do. I enjoyed playing all the shots, but the six over mid-on off Daniel Vettori stood out. I simply loved the way I put bat to ball.
People have asked me if this was my best effort in a limited-overs match. My reply is simple, I have played similar innings in the past but it becomes dear if the team wins.
I was later told that skipper Shane Warne rates me highly as a striker of the ball. He is a legend and when he says something, he has obviously seen something in me.
Warne had informed me that I would be batting at No 5 and not at my usual No 4. He attributed it to crisis management, in case if we were in a spot of trouble. “You can handle the situation,” he said. The plan worked well and I walked in at the right time.
Warne has what we say in Hindi, hatke thinking. He just gives all of us more than one reason to enjoy our time in the middle. We had not been batting well. So, the roles were well defined with Smith playing through. Our batting is slowly regaining confidence. We are learning game by game.
