MAGSAYSAY AWARD winner Rajinder Singh will design the framework for Madhya Pradesh’s Jalabhishek Yojana — a scheme that envisages construction of stop dams, check dams and ponds with public cooperation for water conservation.

“The Supreme Court recently ruled that state governments have the responsibility to conserve traditional water resources and preserve them,” Prof Singh said on the sidelines of Jal Sanchetna Seminar here today.

“However, Madhya Pradesh has not paid attention in this direction till today. The present and previous governments had not taken a concrete step towards conserving and preserving water.”

He said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan appeared serious during a meeting in the State capital in this regard on February 7. Prof Singh said that Chouhan’s decision to take concrete steps with public participation could be viewed as a good indication.
